Volunteers Week 2019

Posted by theministry on 5th June 2019

‘A’ is for a heartfelt thank you from Kirsty, our Deputy Director, to all our passionate and dedicated volunteers.

M

More than 270 volunteers have supported Ministry of Stories

I

In the last 12 months. Incredible.

N

Not all are local. One in five volunteers hail from the outskirts of London or

I

In and around the Home Counties. What a long way to come.

S

Some illustrate, some collect characters, some

T

Tirelessly sit on the rug, surrounded by crumbs from breadsticks and satsuma peel –

R

Reading, listening, encouraging, enthusing, listening again – to the words of

Y

Young writers as they find their voice.

L

Laughter at the adventures of Rob The Cob, being the London Eye,

O

Old Street Roundabout, the Moon Landings and sand bathing in Winter. Imagining

V

Vivid, colourful miniature people who eat your toast. Poetry and performance. All

E

Expressed because of the 4,000 hours given by volunteers last year.

S

Something to remember and thank them for.

V

Volunteers are part of our lifeblood, toiling at Hoxton Street Monster Supplies

O

Or at the heart of our primary and secondary school writing clubs. Even 22

L

Long-distance ghostwriters, who craft and sculpt personal letters from Yetis

U

Under the full moon at home. A brave 130 hours given to selling Tinned Fear.

N

Never will the Ministry of Stories forget that our

T

Thickest Human Snot only became possible because of their gross creativity.

E

Encouragement and commitment, come rain or shine in Hackney.

E

Enthusiasm to give up mornings, afternoons and Saturdays with no expectation in

R

Return, except to help 900 children to write a brighter future for themselves and

S

Support Ministry of Stories to champion the writer in every child.

We wouldn’t be us, without you. Thank you.

And if this has made you curious to be part of our world, find out more about volunteering here.
